I’m a composer, musician, and writer. The purpose of all the music I’ve been releasing digitally under the name “Kevin Ott” since 2022 (though technically my releases go back to 1996 if you count non-digital releases — see this blog post for more info on that) has been to document various moments of learning and inspiration gleaned from trips, books, research projects, museums, and films I’ve been exploring from year to year.

If you’ve taken a look at my music releases on Apple Music or other platforms, you might be wondering why I’ve released so much music in such a short time since the summer of 2022 (570+ original songs written and released between 2022 - 2025, for example, with many more ongoing).

You May Be Wondering: What is Wobbly Cat, Tell Me Your Tale, and 90s Worship Night?

In August 2026, I began releasing music under three new artist names, each devoted to a single genre of music and a single theme.

Wobbly Cat

As the artist Wobbly Cat, I create indie pop music about the wobbly cats of the Friends of Feline Rescue Center in Defiance, Ohio. I’m not affiliated with them in any way, I’m just a fan of their live stream on YouTube and of all the good things they do for cats (especially cats with physical injuries and medical conditions). Each song imagines life at the rescue center from the perspective of one of the wobbly cats.

Tell Me Your Tale

As the artist Tell Me Your Tale, I create indie rock music about the high fantasy writings of J. R. R. Tolkien. Each song and album explores a theme, setting, event, character, or group of characters from Tolkien’s books, especially from his trilogy The Lord of the Rings.

90s Worship Night

As the artist 90s Worship Night, the goal of each song is simple: use one simple Bible verse per song (for lyrics) and make each song simple and memorable so it’s easy to sing and memorize that particular verse. The music style warmly recalls the memorable church music events I experienced in the 1990s as a teenager and in college in the Y2k era of the early 2000s (often very positive and happy memories). It’s an attempt to capture the uniquely 90s (and early 2000s) style and atmosphere of the worship night events themselves (as I remember them, at least).

About me:

I was born in Montana and grew up in California. Not counting the three new artist names above, I write and record mostly American 90s-influenced rock, alternative, and singer-songwriter genres with strong doses of electronic genres (electronic influences include Glitch Mob, Daft Punk, M83, Paul Oakenfold, Boys Noize, Com Truise, Big Black Delta, and other similar electronic artists) — under the name “Kevin Ott” on music streaming platforms.

Besides the artist names Wobbly Cat, Tell Me Your Tale, 90s Worship Night, and Kevin Ott, I’ve also written and recorded lo-fi instrumental music under the artist name Lo-Flying Planets. (And there may be more releases under than name in the future.)

I’ve enjoyed doing occasional charity fundraisers through music over the years. For example, all music proceeds received during the “12 Days of Christmas” project (that began 12/25/2022 and ended 1/6/2023) went to charities helping families caught in the catastrophic famine in Africa (Self-Help Africa) and to the Navajo Water Project as Navajos in the United States grapple with an ongoing, urgent water crisis.

Besides writing and creating music, I love to travel, explore nature, get lost in large museums and aquariums, and go on road trips with my family.

At one point I was also a writer of books, and in 2016 I published a book with BroadStreet Publishing called Shadowlands and Songs of Light. After January 2017, when a sudden, unexpected family event turned life upside down and brought me into a caregiver role for a loved one, I began an indefinite hiatus from writing non-fiction books.

In 2021, more as a mental health pursuit than a serious career interest, I began working on an epic novel that spans 2,050 years of history, will have 2,050 chapters and several hundred thousand words. This project will likely never be released or published publicly on this side of forever, but it is a wonderful spirit-nourishing hobby (as is music composition and sound engineering).
